Terms of Service

These Terms of Service outline the terms that apply when you use Pigeon Softworks, including project hosting, experiment previews, deployment tooling, runtime environments, and participant data collection services.

By using Pigeon Softworks, you agree to these Terms.

1. About Pigeon Softworks

Pigeon Softworks provides tools for researchers and developers to upload, preview, deploy, and manage browser-based experiments, including experiments built using jsPsych and related JavaScript libraries.

The platform may include project hosting, experiment previews, deployment tooling, runtime environments, participant data collection, and related infrastructure for online behavioural research.

2. Using the Platform

Please use the platform lawfully, responsibly, and in accordance with relevant ethics and institutional requirements.

3. User Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and keeping login credentials confidential.

You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the platform, interfere with infrastructure or security systems, or use the service in a way that disrupts other users.

4. Your Content and Experiments

You retain ownership of the code, assets, experiment materials, and research data you upload to Pigeon Softworks.

By uploading content, you grant Pigeon Softworks permission to store, process, preview, and serve that content as reasonably required to provide the service.

You are responsible for ensuring that uploaded content and conducted studies comply with applicable laws, institutional policies, ethics approvals, participant consent requirements, and research standards.

5. Acceptable Use

You must not use Pigeon Softworks to upload malicious code, conduct unlawful activity, harvest personal information without consent, infringe intellectual property rights, or interfere with the operation of the platform.

We may suspend or remove content that reasonably appears to violate these Terms or create security or operational risks for the platform or its users.

6. Experiment Execution and Previews

Pigeon Softworks aims to provide reliable experiment previews and runtime environments that closely reflect uploaded experiments.

However, experiments may behave differently across browsers, operating systems, participant devices, third-party dependencies, or network environments.

Validation and sandboxing systems are designed to improve reliability and security, but may not detect all issues, incompatibilities, or harmful behaviour.

7. Data and Research Responsibility

Researchers are responsible for determining whether the platform is appropriate for their research context and regulatory obligations.

Pigeon Softworks provides software infrastructure and does not provide legal, ethics, privacy, or compliance advice.

8. Availability and Service Changes

Pigeon Softworks is provided on an “as available” basis.

We aim to maintain reliable service, but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, compatibility, or error-free operation.

Features, pricing, storage limits, and platform functionality may change over time as the service evolves.

9. Backups and Data Retention

While Pigeon Softworks takes reasonable steps to maintain platform reliability and backups, users are responsible for maintaining independent backups of important files and research data.

10. Intellectual Property

The Pigeon Softworks platform, branding, interface design, and associated software remain the intellectual property of Pigeon Softworks unless otherwise stated.

Please do not misuse, copy, or attempt to interfere with the platform or its infrastructure.

11. Third-Party Software

Experiments hosted on the platform may rely on third-party libraries, services, and open-source software.

Pigeon Softworks is not responsible for failures, vulnerabilities, or compatibility issues originating from third-party software or external services.

12. Liability

Pigeon Softworks aims to provide a reliable platform, but experiments, uploads, previews, and hosted studies may occasionally fail or behave unexpectedly.

You are responsible for maintaining backups of important files and research data.

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or protections that apply under Australian law.

13. Termination

You may stop using the platform at any time.

We may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary, including where these Terms are breached or where continued access creates operational or security risks.
